
One of our senior partners, Kim practices in the areas of insolvency and restructuring, credit recovery, insurance and municipal law.
Kim’s insurance practice focuses on insurance coverage and related matters. Most notably, Kim was co-counsel on the successful appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada in Housen v. Nikoliasen, which is now the leading case on appellate review in Canada.
Admitted to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1989, Kim finished at the top of his Bar Admission Class, winning both the Law Society of Saskatchewan and the Continuing Legal Education Academic Excellence Awards.
Kim attended law school at the University of Saskatchewan, receiving several academic awards and scholarships. He was awarded his Bachelor of Laws degree with Great Distinction in 1988.
Kim served as councillor for the Rural Municipality of Aberdeen No. 373 for 14 years. He is a member of the Development Appeals Board for the Town of Martensville, the Rural Municipality of Corman Park, and the Saskatoon Planning District. Kim briefly taught municipal planning law in the Department of Geography at the University of Saskatchewan.
Kim has been extensively involved with the Saskatchewan Legal Education Society. He lectured at the Saskatchewan Bar Admission Course in the area of debtor-creditor law for ten years, was the author of the Saskatchewan Debtor-Creditor practice checklist, and has assisted in organizing various seminars.
Kim has been invited to speak at various insurance industry conferences, to community planning professionals and to municipal administrators and councillors. Kim has also assisted the provincial Department of Municipal Affairs with the preparation of a number of practice guides for municipal administrators.
Outside of his profession, Kim is the President of the Aurora Soccer Club, and a board member of Saskatoon Youth Soccer. He has served as a board member of the Saskatoon Zoo Foundation, Saskatoon Group Home, the Meewasin Authority Corporate Campaign, and as President of the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association and Treasurer of Volleyball Canada.
