Practice Areas
A partner at Robertson Stromberg Pedersen LLP, Chris Donald focuses his practice in corporate and commercial law, including mergers and acquisitions of businesses (large and small), corporate finance, commercial lending, commercial real estate, legal due diligence, limited partnerships, non-profit organizations, corporate governance and aboriginal law. He is one of the firm’s transactional lawyers, bringing in the expertise of other lawyers in the firm and, when necessary, outside expert advice, in order to efficiently complete transactions. Chris is often called upon to act as Saskatchewan counsel in multi-jurisdictional transactions. Chris is a member of the Executive Team in the Saskatoon office of RSP.
Before joining RSP, Chris was an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Law where he taught Contracts, Business Organizations and Law & Economics (1998 to 2000). Prior to that, Chris practiced corporate-commercial litigation in Toronto (1990 to 1998). He obtained his Articles of Clerkship at Lang Michener in Toronto (1988 to 1989).
EducationChris received his Bachelor of Arts (1st Class Honours) from the University of Victoria in 1978, his Masters of Arts in Economics from the University of Western Ontario in 1979, graduated with his Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1988 and received his Masters of Laws from the University of Toronto in 1997. Chris was called to the Ontario Bar in 1990 and to the Saskatchewan Bar in 2000.
Professional InvolvementChris was a facilitator for the Corporate/Commercial Section of the Saskatchewan Bar Admission Course (2006 and 2007), was a founding member of the Saint Thomas More Lawyers’ Guild of Saskatoon Inc. and currently serves as a director and as its President. Chris is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and chaired the CBA (Saskatchewan Branch) Mid-Winter Meetings in 2003.

Community InvolvementChris’s recent community involvement includes volunteering as a director with CHEP Good Food Inc., Saskatoon Lazers Swim Club Inc. and Sask K of C Charitable Foundation. He is an Officer with the Knights of Columbus Council 11888 (Our Lady of Lourdes), Saskatoon and was a member of the 2007 Bishop’s Dinner Organizing Committee. Chris is also a member of the University of Saskatchewan Masters Swim Club and the Enterprise Club in Saskatoon.
Key CasesAssie v. Institute of Chartered Accountants of Saskatchewan et al. (2001), 210 Sask. R. 16 (Q.B.). Chris was co-counsel for the applicant in a successful application to strike down bylaws of the Institute of Chartered Accountants restricting advertising by Chartered Accountants on the grounds that the bylaws infringed the fundamental freedom of expression protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
